How to Calculate BMI: Metric vs Imperial Formulas
Calculating your BMI is a straightforward process once you know the correct formula for the units you're using. Here's how it's done:
The Metric Formula
In the metric system, the formula is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared.
Example: If you weigh 70kg and are 1.75m tall:
1.75 * 1.75 = 3.0625
70 / 3.0625 = 22.86
The Imperial Formula
In the imperial system (US units), the formula is weight in pounds multiplied by 703, then divided by height in inches squared.
Example: If you weigh 154 lbs and are 5'9" (69 inches) tall:
69 * 69 = 4761
703 * 154 = 108262
108262 / 4761 = 22.74
